jonny white & james teej - narco balada ep

Jonny White & James Teej

Narco balada

Sustaining a standard of quality underground music, Perspectiv has again hand picked fresh talent for their next release. Canadian pair, White and Teej, a partnership in its ascendency, aspire for a stripped back sound of ‘minimal soul’.

Narco Balada initiates the listener into a robotic hazy stupour. This sonic state of narcosis is perfect for the end of the night and ideal for the bleary eyed shuffler focusing on the beat and gravitational orientation. This track maintains interaction through haunting chords. It creeps up on you.

At just over eleven minutes, Narco Balada casts a deadly spell of inertia that transports the listener to the endless depths of club. A sedative for the soul. Worth an extended listen.

Narcobalada (Chaton's bass traxx remix)

Stef Chaton, is the owner of Geneva based Plak Records. Hot off the fire is Chaton’s adaptation of Narco balada with his bass track remix. Exploring the future by toying around with past, Chaton really takes the less is more approach. His vibe is totally nude and sexy like a Sunday morning.

From the get-go retro warp bleep sounds surface shaping a minimal stripped back D.I.Y aesthetic reminiscent of early Trax, UR and Plus 8. The hypnotic pulse conjures party nostalgia and a nod to Canadian dance music/history.

The bass track remix has a sharp energy and sinister chords with strong bass and kick drums. A vocal dialogue develops adding flavour and a twisted message to the composition. Prepare to strip down to this first rate reduction and production. Vintage vibe and totally now.

DMC Review Of Niwa

Although Switzerland's Raphael Ripperton has appeared on a bunch of high-profile labels. This is actually his first artist album - released on Joris Voorn's Green label, which is some stamp of approval in itself. It's not the sort of album which tries any clever concepts or immediate impact strategy, having obviously been created with a great deal of care and thought: warm, melodic and subtle, its deep, spiritual magic is there for life once embedded. Although the house groove underpins most of the proceedings, tracks like 'The Sandbox' hark back to early 70s psychedelic excursions by bands like King Crimson with delicate guitar ripples and whispery flute sounds and haunting synthetic strings. 'Random Violence' is one of the most gorgeous things you'll hear all year. He seems to have this way with heart-melting strings - as heard on tracks like 'Echo City' - which, along with the other-worldly textures, sometimes places this set in modern classical realms beyond techno. But, ultimately, that is his launch-pad; he just chooses to head for the heavens.

Niwa LP design by Paul Swagerman

Beatfactor / Romania

After more than 10 years in the music industry in Romania, as a promoter, journalist, pr, clubber, dance machine, crack nut, pokermon or whatever else you could be in this business, but especially journalist, that if you believe you can associate journalism with clubbing, and let's assume we can because i simply don't want to look for some other terms to explain my everyday work, you get to be face to face or ear to ear with the "big fish" in the industry.
The Chemical Brothers, Dimitri from Paris, Above & Beyond, Juan Atkins, Derrick May, Carl Craig, Jori Hulkkonen, Dominik Eulberg and many more i just can't remember now have been under "my spells" in cool (or not) interviews.
In 2010 the first interview i did was with Ripperton.
Almost two weeks ago his press manager sent me the press release for Niwa, his soon to be released album on Green. I have listened to the album once, and said to myself, "yea, ok, will work", i've listened to it the second time and it just felt completely different, and after the 6th play i ended up loving it.
Of course, my feminine curiosity pushed me into goggling his name, just so i could see his face. I needed to know who made this album. After viewing the first picture i said ok, i have to have an interview with him, first of all because he is a very talented producer, and second because he is very cute.
I was a bit stressed before the interview, because even if i was familiar with his work, i always am nervouse before an interview. You never know who's behind the music, and that can be a big surprise. Regarding him, it was the best surprise as i had the chance to speak to a man with positive visions, with great musical taste and with intriguing theories on life, future and humanity. I almost felt bad that i wasn't born in Switzerland.
He is an artist that makes music out of passion, lives in a peaceful country surrounded by nature, raises his daughter and from time to time he offers cool releases, eclectic albums and groovy mixes, keeping himself away from all the ugly and dark things of electronic music. Something to be mentioned in a world where electronic music can be the most boring scene in the whole industry.
Anyway, please do not criticize my very personal presentation of this interview as not every day it happens to not regret the fact that i'm putting my life, my time and all my energy into this job and the only regret that is is related to the fact that i haven't had the time to ask everything i wanted to ask.
